WHAT WAS THAT AGAIN? - Wow, there's a combined 126 years associated with the Nassau Mid-Island Chapter in this foursome photo that recently brought together visiting 21-year former member Kevin VanMeter  (third from left) and active and current members (left to right) Bill Ruth, 37 years; Will McCoy, 28 years; and Ed Andreassen, proud of 40 continuous years with the organization.

SCOTT FREE: Talented and respected chorus coach Scott Brannon gives a listen to Chapter member Dennis Weiss singing a few measures at a February rehearsal, and offers some helpful advice on keeping the voice supported , light and completely free. Attentive to Brannon's tips are Bill Vesely (second from left) and Joel Trent.

HOLIDAY "HAT-MOSPHERE" -- Patients, their loved ones and staff personnel at Mercy Medical Center in Rockville Centre were recipients of  holiday serenading in December from Santa-hatted members of the Long Island Harmonizers Chorus. Posing with the barbershoppers at one point, was Shana Edouard, a Unit Secretary,  wearing a tiny Santa hat of her own. Visits also took place at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, Winthrop-University Hospital in Mineola and South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside.

DEVINE INSPIRATION: The Nassau Mid-Island Chapter was honored in December with the presence Sean Devine (center), Director of Development with Harmony Foundation International, Inc.  In his helpful rehearsal coaching of the Long Island Harmonizers chorus, Devine brought truly impressive credentials to bear that have included being the Barbershop Harmony Society's 2002, 2005 and 2008 International Chorus gold medalist; a two-time Far Western District Quartet champ; the founding member of The Westminister Chorus, and part of the 2008 International Gold Medal Champion quartet, OC Times.  Devine also took time to describe the valuable work and successes of the Harmony Foundation, and to solicit member support. Shown with him, is Chapter President Jon Ayers and Musical Director Maurice Debar.

IN THE SEASON OF GIVING members of the Long Island Harmonizers chorus set aside time to offer the joys of holiday music to residents and staff at St. Johnland Nursing Home in Kings Park, L.I. The December afternoon visit was arranged though Chapter member Joel Fairman.

WRAPPED FOR THE HOLIDAYS: Bundled up and in attendance for an outdoor singout performance at Lynbrook's Winter Celebration in December was Nassau Mid-Island Chapter alumnus Harry Ruvolo along with his wife Agatha, shown with members Bob Miraglia (left) and John Brolly.

STANDING TALL: Members of the Nassau Mid-Island Chapter on stage with Musical Director Maurice Debar at the Mid-Atlantic District's Division contest and convention held in Ocean City, MD, Oct.12-14. The shot was snapped by good friend, fellow barbershopper and super photographer Lee Roth (see photo below). Thanks, Lee.

WILL THE REAL BARBERSHOPPER NAMED ROTH PLEASE STAND UP -- Actually, that's both of them...Lee (at right) with the Hunterdon (NJ) Harmonizers (who was kind enough to take an on-stage photo of our chorus at the 2012 Mid--Atlantic District Fall Convention), and our own Bob Roth, one of 27 members of the Long Island Harmonizers in Ocean City, MD on hand for the performance

COUNTED ON WHEN "DIRECTION" COMES INTO PLAY -- Musical Director Maurice Debar (left) and talented vocal coach Scott Brannon share a laugh over a small car compass, as they think about the Ocean City, MD location that will welcome members of the Long Island Harmonizers chorus when they head south to compete at the Mid-Atlantic District convention, Oct.12-14.

TAKING OFF IN "COACH SEATS" (THANKS TO FIRST CLASS ASSISTANCE) -- Barbershop Harmony Society vocal and interpretation coach Scott Brannon was on hand in September to add his considerable expertise in helping to improve the presentation and singing skills of Nassau Mid-Island Chapter members eagerly preparing for the Mid-Atlantic District's contest and convention to be held in Ocean City, MD, Oct.12-14.

NO ACCIDENT: Nassau Mid-Island Chapter members rejoiced in mid-September, with the smiling face of Gene Kammerer once again in their midst following Gene's car crash several months earlier...a return certainly "no accident" what with his resolve and determination combined with the care of hospital doctors, rehabilitation as well as the loving concern of wife Dorothy. Ready with a surprise "Welcome Back" cake from the Long Island Harmonizers Chorus was Chapter VP - Program Wayne Lazar.

"LOCH" AND RING: Festivities set for the The 52nd Annual Scottish Festival and Games held in late August at Old Westbury Gardens, Old Westbury, LI  included  a 40-minute outdoor concert by the Long Island Harmonizers Chorus and its barbershop quartets, offering the opportunity to augment the day's sounds of bagpipes with the vocal "pipes" of Chapter members in song.

TAKE HEED: "Pitch-man" Maurice Debar -- Musical Director of the Long Island Harmonizers Chorus -- illustrates a point at the shuttle bus that transported Chapter members between their rehearsal hall at Church of the Advent and the band shell at The 52nd Annual Scottish Festival and Games in  Old Westbury Gardens. The underlying "watch your step" message perhaps? Could it be the vocal distance between "do" and "re"????.

"TRAINED" CHORUS: The fascinating Wantagh Museum located in Wantagh on grounds that showcase the community's original Long Island Railroad Station (dating back to 1885) and a LIRR railroad car used in 1912 among other preserved memorabilia was the venue for a Long Island Harmonizers outdoor concert, free to the public in late July.

"TRACKING" HIS CHAPTER: Howie Rosenberg (left) of Farmingdale,  a member of the Nassau Mid-Island Chapter 34 years ago, stirred those memories with attendance at a July concert of the Long Island Harmonizers chorus at the Wantagh Train Museum. He is pictured with current Chapter President Jon Ayers.

WE WANT A GRILL, JUST LIKE THE GRILL... that provided such tasty hamburgers, chicken and other morsels at a summertime get together hosted annually by the Verity family for Chapter members and guests . Pictured at the grill with tongs in hand are Hal Verty as well as one of his daughters, Ellen Heneghan, shown with "Toosday Toons" Editor Chiz Bell.

MANY HAPPY RETURNS: Nassau Mid-Island Chapter Musical Director Maurice Debar (left) playfully used a timer (indicating five minutes to go) before the July 3rd kick off the organization's summertime rehearsal schedule involving the cool comfort of Baldwin's Calvary Protestant Church. It marked the third year that member Hal Verity (also pictured) arranged the welcomed move. Thanks from all of us, Hal.

SIMPLY WILD ABOUT HARRY:  Harry Ruvolo (right), longtime member of the Nassau Mid-Island Chapter who has decided to turn to a less active barbershop life, earned  deserved adulation at Ladies' Night 2012 along with best wishes and a special parting gift. Here Harry, shown with President Jon Ayers (left) and Trustee George Seelinger, offers a few words of appreciation after receiving two framed Annual Show-related photos picturing him in performance as one of the Chapter's entertaining "Three Tenors."

WELCOME TO THE CLUB:  Those in attendance at  Ladies' Night - 2012 held in June at the glitzy Swan Club in Roslyn, L.I. included Long Island Harmonizers Chorus member Karel Boersma and Chapter supporters (left to right) Marlene Muscarnera, Lynda Boersma, Kathy Brolly and Eva Milauskas. Ladies and guests at the dinner received sincere thanks from the Chorus (and a bit of serenading in appreciation, too).

AT THE READY --  Members of the Long Island Harmonizers posed for a Mid-Atlantic District photo prior to a Morristown, NJ performance at M-AD's Northern Division contest in June.  Music, singing and presentation scores given by a panel of judges after the Long Island Chapter's two songs has led to an invitation for the chorus to participate at the organization's District contest and convention to be held in Ocean City, MD this Fall.

HOWEVER WRITTEN, IT WAS A "GO" -- Tony Leone (left) joins Howie Bailin to prove that (whatever the language) the two were on hand at Morristown Beard School in New Jersey, readying to compete on stage along with fellow Long Island Harmonizers Chorus members at the Mid-Atlantic District's Northern Division Convention.

THE PLEASURES? (THEIRS...AND OURS) -- Nassau Mid-Island Chapter members were on hand in June to sing at  the Farmingdale-Bethpage Historical Society's 2012 Strawberry Festival offered in a large gazebo next  to Farmingdale's  Village Hall. Shown enjoying strawberry shortcake sundaes (why, of course) graciously provided by the event's appreciative hosts after the performance, are Wayne and Carol Lazar.

"WAYING-IN" WITH ONE APPROACH: Showing off his honest-to-goodness "Ti" shirt aimed at drawing public attention to barbershopping as well as the Long Island Harmonizers Chorus, is its creator, Nassau Mid-Island Chapter member Bob Heim (at left), pictured with the organization's VP Chapter Development John Brolly.

The Ti-shirt text/visuals are shown at right.
